I used to use OnlyWire until I was referred to the following page at Linktopia by a trusted blog that I read. I had been using OW off and on (very lightly for my own sites as well as my legit bookmarks)  for over a year and always assumed it was working fine.

I was even going to install the OnlyWire WordPress Plug in. After reading that Linktopia message above, I got a bit concerned so I went to my OW account logins to check out to see if any of my accounts had been banned or shut down. All but 4 had either been shut down or stopped listing BM’s from Onlywire at different points in the past year.

What this tells me is that these bookmarking services know when automated tools like OW are being used and they can and will turn any account off at any time they choose. Yeah this method may have helped get your sites indexed in the past, but like any quick and easy seo technique that gets any amount of exposure, it gets abused shortly thereafter and people in control catch on. Always.

Even if you do your bookmarks manually with Social Marker, they are eventually going to get tired of duplicate entries on the different bookmarking sites. Shortcuts like this and other seo techniques leave a footprint, and if they are abused on a large scale they will be eventually be rendered ineffective. Rightly so in my opinion.

Unless you can hack the social bookmarking sites properly by outsourcing the work, then I say just pick 1 or 2 of your favorite BM sites and just use those on a regular basis and post different titles, descriptions and tags for each site.

Your time is better spent creating new and original content which get links naturally. Go back to basics. There are no publicly-known shortcuts that last long-term anymore.

Try to remember this when you see the next latest and greatest promotion technique. By the time you see it or read about it, it is already on it’s way to being rendered ineffective. The things that do work will not be written about to the masses. :)
